Artist: Stéphanie Laliberté

Photo de l'artisteBorn in Quebec City, Stéphanie Laliberté was introduced to onstage vocal performance through her studies in music at Cégep de Sainte-Foy and through three tours with the Crescendo Company in France and Switzerland. She is currently studying jazz at McGill University where she works, with such notable artists as Ranee Lee. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in music with a major in jazz interpretation, for which she received an Outstanding achievement in jazz voice acknowledgement, Stéphanie has made multiple appearances in some of the greatest spots for jazz in Quebec and Montreal. She regularly performs at the renowned Quebec Clarendon Hotel and the Montreal Queue de Cheval where she has begun a collaboration with the Geoff Lapp Trio. Currently teaching music and working as a backup vocalist, she still manages to be very present on the Montreal jazz scene.

Grant holder from the Fondation du maire de Montréal pour la jeunesse, Stéphanie Laliberté is proud to release her first CD, a combination of restraint and sensuality, intelligence and emotion. Reflecting that complexity, Stéphanie offers a voice with a unique timbre and a smooth and shimmering interpretation. Accompanied by Geoff Lapp at the piano, Paul Johnston at the bass and Dave Laing at the drum, Stéphanie sings a mixture of classic standards and such notable pieces from the French jazz repertoire as La Noyée (S. Gainsbourg) and Moi je suis là (M. Legrand). In collaboration with orchestral arranger Dave Martin, she offers beautiful renditions of You Must Believe In Spring (M. Legrand) and So In Love (C. Porter). This first CD is an appeal to the varied emotions of the jazz universe that should leave nobody unmoved.

Stéphanie Laliberté : passion jazz

Stephanie, joined here by a wonderful Geoff Lapp trio and a string quartet arranged by David Martin, is one of the very best young jazz singers here in Montreal—an impressive debut.

She has also picked some of Montreal’s finest musicians to back her on this first CD. I have always considered Geoff Lapp as being one of the finest accompanist that we have in this country, always so sensitive and tasteful, and of course Dave Laing and Paul johnston, seasoned veterans who both gave tremendous support when needed. There is a nice variety of music on this CD. (...)  But don’t just take my word for it, listen for yourself, and enjoy. I am sure that we will be hearing a lot more from this bright and shinning new artist ''Stéphanie Laliberté'' in the future. Bravo!
